Troy didn't like my email to him. He's in a snit over angry emails. I admit that I have sent him angry emails in the past, but I don't think this one was angry. Here's his response:
Glenn,
I know you were very upset that Fawn is ill and no other Typewell Transcribers were available for your 11:00 class today. However, no matter how you are feeling your angry Emails to me must stop. I have been civil and respectful to you and I expect your future interactions with me to be equally civil and respectful.
I cannot change the past and it is a waste of my time and yours to continue to discuss it. Consequently, I ask you to restrict your communications with me to current issues as I am unable to respond to incidents that occurred prior to September 16th, 2008.
As you know, CDS has established procedures and deadlines for requesting communication access services. Although you did submit a post-deadline request for Fall Quarter, 2008, you did not provide your alternative service choices. Consequently, I was unable to begin the process of establishing services for you when your normal transcriber called in sick. To avoid this next quarter, I expect you to submit a complete, official service request for Winter Quarter, 2009, as soon as you have registered for classes. In order to be complete, your service request must include two alternative services. Early registration for winter quarter begins on Monday, November 3rd and ends on Friday, November 7th and the deadline for requesting services for winter quarter is Monday, November 10th.
This morning, despite the fact that you did not provide CDS with back-up options, I was attempting to ensure services for you. I offered you three options for your 11:00 class - 1) remote CART, 2) an ASL Interpreter, and, 3) a notetaker who would also record the class for CDS to transcribe. You chose option #3 - a transcription of this recording will be Emailed to you as soon as possible. However, since you chose not to attend class, no notes will be provided to you.
My intent is to give you the best service possible which I believe I have done since my arrival on September 16th.

Glenn,
While I support everything you are doing and agree with the fundamentals, perhaps demanding things from Troy is not in your best interest if you want cooperation of any sort. Just a thought as to why he may have interpreted your e-mail as angry.
He seems to think that ignoring the past will make things OK. He doesn't seem to realize that the past is what created this situation. Some others have read that email to him and don't think it was inappropriate.
I was not stating it was inappropriate, just that perhaps it put him on the defensive being told to do something 'now'. I agree that the past has much to do with the present and he needs to go back and see what he can change, because in this instance there is change he can make.
